What is a wrestling match?
A wrestling match is a physical competition in which two wrestlers attempts to gain and control the position of the other wrestler. In folkstyle wrestling, there is no punching, kicking, biting, joint locks, or various wrestling moves that cause injury to the opponent.

A referee is in charge of monitoring and scoring the match to ensure the safety of the wrestlers and proper scoring. Referees should be treated with the utmost respect as they have the most difficult job of the match and the most visible.

Matches are broken down into 3 timed periods with extra periods should the match be tied at the end of the 3 regulation periods.

Wrestlers start the match standing. Points are awarded to each wrestler based upon being able to take their opponent down to the mat and control them (takedown = 2 pts). Escaping from a takedown earns 1 pt and results in both wrestlers in standing positions. If while controlled, the controlled wrestler is able to gain control of his opponent, he is awarded a reversal and given 2 pts. Holding both of a wrestlers shoulder blades on the mat for more than 1-2 seconds results in a pin and the end of the match regardless of time or score. Penalty points are awarded when a wrestler uses illegal holds, unnecessary roughness, unsportsmanlike conduct, or other technical violation.

Some great Americans that also wrestled include; 11 US Presidents (Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Eisenhower), at least 6 NASA astronauts, over 16 heads of Fortune 500 businesses, Actors Tom Cruise, Billy Baldwin, Ashton Kutcher, Mario Lopez, NFL Players like Ray Lewis, Ronde Barber, Kelly Gregg, Roddy White, and thousands of other everyday people.

B team and Novice Wrestling...

Every wrestler starts their career as a novice wrestler or as we like to say “Future Champs.”
Our B Team is geared towards those wrestlers in their 1st or 2nd year of wrestling. The goal of the B team is to teach wrestlers solid wrestling techniques and get them ‘mat experience’ to master those techniques as quickly as possible.

Since wrestling is an individual sport, novice wrestlers are able to practice as much or as little as they like and compete in as many or as few events as they like. Competition is very important to advancing a wrestler’s skills so CBW provides a very competitive schedule for those that seek to undertake it.

Most team matches will be in a Madison-style system where wrestlers are grouped in 4-man brackets with each wrestler having 3 matches at one event. The actual age/weight of the wrestlers is grouped as close as possible but the ultimate goal is to get each wrestler three matches with competitors being as close to the same age/weight/experience as possible.
